Williams Family

HI! Great to have you here! Hope you enjoy your time and learn a bit about us.

Our family have been around for a long time. We all started out from around Cornwall or Devon, England and a bloke called William Penwill, my mother’s family name. In 2001 we welcomed the newest member to our family, Manuka, Erina’s youngest.

If you are related and know more about the family other than what you see on these pages then contact me, I will be pleased to hear from you.

At this time, we are building this web site in the Far North of New Zealand, God’s own country where my Mum Joan came with her new husband Gilbert in 1964. NZ’s a great place to be or come from. Come and check us out some time.

Why Penwill, well it started from a lovely farm we once owned. It was an old Maori Pa site called Ka Rangi. We used the name Penwill because Will and the Hill make up Penwill. The Pa site was the highest hill in the area and it just went on from that.

I, David, at present live in Rawene, Hokianga. Where the air is clear the weather is fair and life is pretty easy. I have lived in the area since 1984 and will probably be here for some time yet.

My Mum Joan Margaret Thomson (DOB 9/8/15) lived in 4 Flanders Mansions, Flanders Road, Chiswick, London with my father, Albert Ronald Williams (DOB 1/10/00) - an Engineer - he was born in Oakendean Cottage, Cowfield, South Horsham.

I believe my Mum’s Mum Edith Marian Penwill was from Devon originally. Mum’s father Herbert David Thomson was a Quantity Surveyor, he must have spent a bit of time around South Devon and Cornwall as I have a book of his about his travels written in 1886.

I was born 21st April 1953 and brought up by Mum in Chiswick, W4 London after my dad died around 1957. Gilbert Harold Hall came on to the scene when I was 9 - he brought us to Auckland, New Zealand, where we settled and lived for many years.
